ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB



The purpose of the Learning Manager is to develop, lead and execute on a Learning Delivery strategy for Sasol Mining in compliance with legislative, group and regional minimum standards and requirements, in order to enable Sasol Mining to reach its business goals and long term strategies.





The intent is to act as an internal consultant and further integrate the delivery, implementation and execution of the following for Sasol Mining:









- Provide leadership to and manage Sasol Mining Technical Training department and ensure that learning is delivered according to the agreed strategy, Group minimum standards and governance framework to achieve the desired business performance



- Collaborate with the extended Sasol Mining operational leaders, P&OE; and learning leadership team to continuously improve integration and standardisation across the different work processes



- Facilitate the leveraging of the curricula for as far as is reasonably practicable and to link the total talent management and learning initiatives and strategies at Sasol Mining





- Formalise a learning strategy in consultation and with inputs from Sasol Mining Operational Management, communicate the delivery of the strategy and implements the learning plan for Sasol Mining





- Effectively implement an asset management strategy for the training equipment and facilities





- Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of artisans and miners development as per business requirements





- Ensure compliance to all relevant laws and standards, including HSE laws and standards related to mining operations



- Integration with Talent management department to ensure alignment in terms of skills and competency gaps on the targeted population





- Assure that Sasol Mining Technical Training upholds its accreditation requirements through regular surveillance audits per ISO9001:2015, SETA and all relevant Legislations





FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS





Sasol Mining Learning and Development Strategy



- Consolidate training priorities and learning projects from different BU’s

- Link Sasol Mining Learning and Development Strategy with the Sasol Mining Game Plan, talent management initiatives and external strategies

- Consolidate and report on Sasol Mining legislative targets for skills development, Social and labour Plan and other legislative requirements

- Review and consolidate the Sasol Mining Technical Training Technology Road Map into the Sasol Mining Technical Training strategy





Learning Delivery within Sasol Mining Technical Training requirements, Group minimum standards and governance framework



- Translate and leverage the Sasol Mining and Regional Learning strategy and generate an understanding of the templates, tools, approaches and frameworks

- Translate Group minimum standards into OME standards/ procedures, addressing Sasol Mining requirements

- Effectively communicate these standards/ procedures to BU’s, Academies, Learning fraternity and other learning stakeholders

- Ensure compliance to minimum standards in collaboration with Learning Managers and Senior Learning practitioners





Talent Management



- Engages with Learning managers and Line managers on their people issues specifically in relation to talent management

- Supports and advises the Business Department/Section managers with resource and people plans

- Implements integrated talent management initiatives (e.g. leadership development, career management, corporate talent management process, performance management and development plans)

- Implements talent and succession decisions from the BU talent days and interventions

- Initiates and manages integrated BU talent management solutions that are unique to the BU

- Educates senior line managers on the importance of having integrated talent management processes in the BU

- Understands the internal and external talent management dynamics and the impact on the business

- Consolidates reports from the BUs to gain an understanding of their requirements and develop trends and themes, including understanding turnover trends in the BU MSP’s population

- Identifies critical workforce issues and prioritizes specific programmes / initiatives to enable each workforce or talent segment to maximise their contribution toward high performance

- Proactively updates Talent Management deliverables in line with changes in the BU environment and/or new Group or Regional developments





Leadership Effectiveness



- Diagnoses and understands Leadership Effectiveness needs in the training department and proposes appropriate interventions

- Develops and implements Leadership Effectiveness interventions aimed at closing individual and team leadership capability gaps identified within Technical Training while staying within the boundary of the leadership architecture and frameworks developed by the Region





Responsible for all Learnership Programs for Sasol Mining



- Effective pipeline administration from recruitment to appointment or release to market

- Track Learnership intake and absorption rate and use data to influence future workforce planning

- Partner with TVET institutions to build capacity to meet the skills demand of the operations

- Ensure that skills quality of the learners trained is maintained at levels required by the operations





Manage the Riaan Rademan Training Academy and Decentralised Sites



- Ensure the Training Facilities uphold their accreditation



- Uphold requirements through regular surveillance audits inclusive of Learnership and Apprenticeship requirements as per SETA and Legislative requirements

- Implement sound Asset Management Strategy for the training center facilities

- Ensure that the Assets Replacement strategy is in place and is reviewed on a regular basis

- Ensure that sound Pro-active maintenance tasks are undertaken to ensure asset reliability and integrity





Customer and Relationship Results



- Provides strategic advice (interprets, integrates, applies judgement and determines relevance) on all Learning and Talent matters in relation to the HR value chain

- Provides a first line People and Organisational Effectiveness service to the Business/Department/Section

- Contributes to the development of values based partnerships between stakeholders at a BU level that add value to BU and Regional strategy

- Enables the education, coaching and support of values based partnerships of line management within the department

- Scans the internal and external environment to proactively determine critical people challenges and trends

- Fosters close working relationships with Business Department/Section managers

- Participates in business, professional and employer forums and steering committees

- Establishes a customer centric approach and consistently delivers on SLC’s

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:



- Registered as an Assessor/Moderator

- Relevant B Degree (Behavioural Sciences)

- Hons Degree in HR or Behavioural Sciences or Engineering (NQF level 7 – 480 points) will be to your advantage

- Valid Drivers License and own transport





Specific experience required



- 7-10 years of relevant experience in Learning/ Training & Development

- Track record of successful delivery in a matrix environment

- Sound multi-functional stakeholder management and engagement abilities

- Ability to manage stakeholders and service providers effectively

- At least 8 years mining operational experience

- Past experience in managing a training center

- Valid certificate of fitness for underground mines
