Business Intelligence Analyst
Location: Durban Department: IT Job Type: Full-Time Salary: Market Related Closing Date: 31st October 2024
Job Summary:
The Business Intelligence Analyst will develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards to support data-driven decision-making across various departments. The role involves working closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements, designing insightful and interactive visualisations, and ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and performance optimisation of reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop Power BI Reports and Dashboards:
Design, build, and deploy interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
Integrate multiple data sources and ensure the accuracy of data represented in the reports.
Apply best practices in visualisation to make data insights easy to understand and actionable.
Data Analysis & Transformation:
Analyze and interpret business data to identify trends, insights, and key performance indicators.
Use DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for data transformation and analysis.
Manage data models and relationships for optimised performance.
Requirements Gathering:
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into reports and dashboards.
Provide expertise and recommendations on reporting solutions based on business needs.
Report Optimization and Maintenance:
Ensure optimal performance of Power BI reports, including tuning performance and optimizing queries.
Monitor report usage, resolve issues, and provide regular updates and improvements.
Troubleshoot and resolve data or reporting issues promptly.
Data Governance & Security:
Ensure reports comply with data governance, privacy, and security standards.
Implement appropriate security measures, including role-level security for different user groups.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Power BI Desktop.
Basic understanding of DAX for building complex measures and calculations.
Experience connecting to various data sources (SQL databases, Excel, cloud data warehouses, etc.).
Proficiency in doing data analysis using Pivot Tables & Pivot Charts.
Proficiency with advanced formulas and functions, such as:
Master functions (VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, etc.) for data retrieval.
Conditional logic formulas (SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, etc.) for basic calculations.
Array formulas (SUMPRODUCT, ARRAY, etc.)
for complex calculations.
Proficiency with conditional formatting to highlight patterns, trends, and outliers based on specific rules.
Proficiency with customised charts beyond the basics, such as combo charts, dynamic charts, and sparklines.
Business Skills:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business needs into data-driven insights.
Ability to work closely with non-technical stakeholders to gather and understand reporting requirements.
Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail in building accurate and efficient reports.
Soft Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks or projects at once.
Collaborative attitude with a focus on continuous improvement and user satisfaction.
Education and Experience:
Degree or Diploma in Accounting / Computer Science Data Analytics / Business Intelligence / or a related field (or equivalent experience).
1+ year of experience in building Power BI reports and dashboards.
