Senior System Administrator - Mainframe Operator (Permanent) Hybrid (Randburg/Home)
Our client requires the services of a Senior System Administrator - Mainframe Operator.
The Systems Administrator (Mainframe Operator) is responsible for monitoring the Mainframe alerts/events providing first-level investigation on system-related issues and performing fixes per documented procedures or support-provided instructions. Event Monitoring ensures incident tickets for each alert and records corrective actions with timelines.
POSITION: Permanent Role.
COMMENCEMENT: As soon as possible.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 5-10yrs working experience as an Operator.
- TSO/ISPF, JES, Z/OS Scheduling Tools.
- Ticketing System.
- ITIL Foundation advantageous.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of Network systems.
- Willingness to work:
- 14 shifts per month;
- 12-hour shifts;
- 6 days and 6 nights.
THE ROLE:
- Working knowledge of z-OS operating system.
- Working knowledge of problem management processes and ticketing systems.
- Ability to function on a team and possess good communication skills.
- PC/Workstation basic skills.
- 24x7 monitoring of z-OS systems, providing timely notification of alerts to meet or exceed SLA requirements.
- IPL of Mainframe systems.
- Respond to requests promptly and communicate results when required.
- Document events and participate in situation management to assist clients or other teams in response to issues.
- Solid knowledge of TSO, SDSF, and Mainframe Monitoring.'
- Knowledge of ticketing tools.
- Strong problem-solving ability and skills in communicating.
- Ability to work under pressure and work a variety of shifts.
- Ability to work off normal business hours.
- Above normal ability to handle multi-tasking requirements.
- Good Telephone Etiquette.
- Troubleshoot operational issues as 1st level support and notify appropriate support personnel for problem resolution.
- Ensures all problems and issues reported to computer operations are recorded in the Incident reporting log for review or action by Operations or Incident Management.
- 1st level support of online business applications ensuring 24x7 availability.
- The ability to analyse common issues and take steps to reduce or eliminate them, collaborate with other personnel, and seek help from supervisors to develop relevant solutions.
- The Computer Operator should also possess great verbal and written communication skills and the willingness to learn everything about our computer system.
