Our client, a global leader in renewable energy, headquartered in Cape Town, wants to appoint a Project Director who will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of commercial and utility-scale solar construction projects, ensuring adherence to quality, budget, and schedule.
The successful candidate will control both internal and external project teams, supervise site execution, handle subcontract procurement, and maintain high standards of health and safety on-site. Experience with large-scale solar PV systems and construction management for Green Energy Solutions will be vital in delivering high-performing solar projects.
Role And Responsibilities
- Leadership & Oversight: As Project Director,
you are ultimately accountable for the successful delivery of commercial and utility-scale solar construction projects, ensuring they meet quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Strategic Resource Management: Develop and oversee resource allocation strategies for the entire project execution team, including project managers, project coordinators, and construction managers, ensuring optimal team performance.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Establish and enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, ensuring that all projects adhere to local regulations and company policies, with continuous monitoring for compliance and improvement.
- Project Governance: Provide high-level oversight on the quality, schedule, and budget across all project phases, from pre-construction through commissioning, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire both internal and external project teams, including EPC contractors,
fostering a collaborative environment to ensure all project activities are efficiently coordinated and executed.
- Risk & Compliance Management: Oversee risk management strategies, identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential project risks, ensuring proactive solutions to avoid delays, budget overruns, or quality deviations.
- Contract & Procurement Oversight: Direct and manage contract negotiations with subcontractors, suppliers, and EPC partners, ensuring cost efficiency, quality standards, and alignment with project objectives.
- Schedule & Budget Control: Ensure the development and execution of detailed project schedules and budgets, with rigorous tracking systems in place to guarantee on-time delivery and financial efficiency.
- High-Level Project Coordination: Oversee cross-functional,
high-complexity projects, ensuring that quality, scope, schedule, and cost objectives are met while driving stakeholder alignment and efficient resource utilization.
- Commissioning & System Integration: Oversee the commissioning of solar systems, ensuring successful integration with the grid and meeting all contractual obligations, including performance testing and final inspections.
- Continuous Improvement & Reporting: Create and implement best-in-class processes and procedures for effective project planning, execution, and reporting. Organize regular lessons learned reviews to continuously improve project outcomes.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for senior leadership and key stakeholders,
providing strategic updates and ensuring transparent communication regarding project progress, risks, and opportunities.
- Team Development & Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for project teams, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure peak performance. Evaluate team progress and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Contractual Review: Lead the review of all contract documentation, including EPC contracts, subcontracts, and supply agreements, ensuring that all contractual terms support the strategic objectives of the business.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Take on additional high-level responsibilities and special projects, aligning with the organization's broader strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in renewable energy,
engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 8-10 years' Experience as lead or Site Management in the Execution of Large-Scale MW Solar PV Projects/Conventional Power plants.
- 3 years of Project Director experience
- International project execution
- Large Construction (EPC) and site experience
- Fluent in English
