DEPARTMENT OF RELIGION STUDIES

SENIOR LECTURER / LECTURER (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:







- Teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the subject field of Religion Studies;
- Conducting scholarly research in the field of Religion Studies;
- Supervising master’s and doctoral students (if the successful candidate has a relevant doctoral degree);
- Mentoring students at the undergraduate level;
- Performing academic administration and management;
- Performing other duties as delegated by the Head of the Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

- A relevant Masters degree;
- At least 1 publication in an accredited journal;
- Some relevant academic administration experience.

Senior Lecturer:

- A relevant doctoral degree or proof of submission thereof;
- At least 3 years’ tertiary experience or related teaching experience;
- At least 3 accredited quality journal publications or an average of 1 article/credit per year for the previous 3 years;
- Evidence of conference papers delivered;
- Experience in academic administration and knowledge of departmental committees.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS,





KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

- Good communication skills;
- Competent writing skills;
- Willingness to learn (i.e., Learning Management System and the use of technology enhancing learning);
- Be able to work in a team;

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

- Familiar with the African context;
- Competency in more than one language;
- Be part of an established international academic network;
- Membership in at least one scholarly society related to Religion Studies;
- Community engagement in a related field would be a recommendation.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
