Introduction
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for but not limited to, Developing, implementing, and improving the health and safety plans, programmes and procedures in the workplace. Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation. Identifying OHS-related training needs in the workplace.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducting workplace inspections - Conduct safety inspections and identify hazards
- Ensure company is compliant with relevant regulations
- Enforcing policies related to Health and Safety
- Guiding employees in case of an emergency
- Keeping the SHE file updated - Maintain safety records and reports.
- Ensure all new employees are inducted on SHE matters.
- Consistent compliance and risk identification are ensured through monthly inspections.
- Resolve noncompliance issues timeously.
- Investigate accidents and incidents
- Register and complete IOD Accident report
- Ensure all health and safety training is up to date - Ensure validity of all compliance certificates and licences
- Ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations in areas pertaining to environmental health, safety, statutory trainings, audits, wastes disposal, firefighting equipment inspections and reporting
- Managing health and safety training courses of the employee base in courses such as First Aid, Firefighting, H&S; Representative (employee’s ), Risk Assessment, Accident and Incident, Evacuation Planning and any other health and safety training requirements etc
- Contractor management
- Recommend and implement safety improvements.
- Assist in monthly stock take processes, and inventory counts
- Adherence to health and safety regulations - Employees are required to work in a safe and efficient manner to ensure production of the highest quality and packaging while maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy facility
- General housekeeping activities / and or assistance when required in additional production / manufacturing departments
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade: 12
- Certificate / Diploma / Degree: accredited health and safety qualifications
- Years’ Experience: 5 years
- Computer Literacy & level: Microsoft Office
- Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety rules and regulations
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail to spot various hazards and complete investigation
- Good communication skills to build a good H&S; culture and obtain by into H&S; objectives at all levels in the organisation
