Duties/Pligte
- Strategic leadership of research activities, including the development of research niche areas that align with national and/or international health priorities, research capacity

building, funding opportunities, internationalisation;
- Formulating and implementing University research policies;
- Managing research quality assurance and accreditation structures and processes related to the FMHS;
- Overseeing Faculty-specific research committees (Research Committee C and Health Research Ethics);
- Advising on all FMHS research and internationalisation matters;
- Liaising with relevant stakeholders regarding regulatory frameworks, processes and policies;






- Overseeing the implementation of strategic innovations in research and internationalisation;
- Supporting the identification and procurement of research funding, as well as compliance with relevant policies in this regard;
- Developing and strengthening research partnerships, nationally and internationally;
- Managing the Research Development and Support Division, as well as the Tygerberg International Office;
- Supporting the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property;
- Processing research contracts;
- Contributing to the strategic leadership and management of the Faculty as a whole, as part of the Dean's Management Team.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Doctoral degree in Health Sciences, as well as registration/eligibility for registration with the relevant professional council;
- Proven academic and research stature, and eligibility for appointment as professor/associate professor in an academic department;
- Experience in managing an academic entity,





including the planning and management of research activities in health sciences;
- Experience in developing and implementing research and internationalisation strategies;
- Sound knowledge and insight into the health sciences research landscape at both national and international levels;
- Appropriate experience in research administration and management at a university or other research institution;
- Sound knowledge of, and insight into, national and international principles and trends in research ethics;
- Proven ability to secure research funding;
- Sound understanding of the South African socio-political environment;
- Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills;
- Proven ability to function effectively as part of a team;






- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to deal with conflict.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Experience in interacting at managerial level with higher education and research structures both nationally and internationally;
- A track record of implementing innovation in research and internationalisation;
- Experience in the development and execution of research strategies;
- Experience in interacting at managerial level with research councils, as well as other statutory and non
- statutory research bodies (nationally and internationally);






- Knowledge of legal issues and relevant legislation pertaining to research contracts, intellectual property, ethics and other health research-related matters.
