Award Winning Restaurant in Hillcrest is looking for a Sommelier / FOH candidate to suggest suitable wines to pair with dishes on the menu. The candidate should have a passion for wine and outstanding guest service skills.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Executive Chef to put together 5 course wine pairing menus that uses fresh local produce.
- Ensure presentation and temperature of all drinks are correct.
- Updating wine list as necessary.
- Placing order for all wines and other beverages.
- Ensure a minimum loss through breakage, waste, theft and incorrect orders.
- Assisting in running FOH operations
- Monthly stock-takes
- Promote guest satisfaction.
- Adhere strictly to the provisions and regulations as contained in the Liquor Act.
Requirements:
- Grade 12
- Certificate from Cape Wine Academy or WSET level 1.
- Preferably 1–2-years’ experience
- In depth knowledge of wines - grape varieties and regions, harvest times, climates, soils and wine making process and being able to communicate and explain this to guests.
- Passionate about wine and the hospitality industry.
- Applicable product knowledge.
- Excellent interpersonal- & communication skills.
