QHSE OFFICER MINING East Rand
Reporting to QHSE Manager
Job purpose: To ensure the companys Environmental, Health and Safety compliance regarding applicable legislation, standards, and stakeholder requirements.
Description of duties / Primary functional objectives of the role :
Support the development and implementation of QEHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, Group EHS and customer requirements
Support local managers, and relevant staff to ensure full alignment to QEHS requirements
Keep updated with the changes in environmental health and safety regulations and best practices and make recommendations for changes to the companys safety program as needed.
Performance management objectives of the role :
Legal compliance | Updated Health and Safety records
Updated and documented systems, standards & procedures in place
Quality and completion of Contractors packs
Meeting minimum client requirements with regards to Inductions, ID Cards, permits and Vehicle inspections
Actual safety meeting and tool box talk attendance | Record of feedback and recommendations given
Cost effective PPE Management and timeous availability of PPE
Updated and maintained legal appointments | Updated Risk Assessments

Responsibility for the maintenance of stakeholder relationships
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team when required Process
Documenting and maintaining contactor packs/safety files for customer site work. Includes electronic files on Passport 360, HSEC or customers own on-line system
Site inspections at Head Office and branches | Internal audits | Risk Assessments
Incident and accident investigations and reporting to management
Maintaining all records and ensuring records are uploaded/updated on operational system (Data for Customer safety files, training records, inductions, audits, NCRs etc.
People : Participate in safety committees and other forums to promote a proactive culture of safety within the organization.
Customer :
Preparation of contractor packs/safety files
Travel to customers to issue safety files / contractor packs for approval
Represent company and attend customer, on site, safety meetings Assets Conduct incident and accident investigations immediately and report to management.
Conduct site inspections and reporting.
Decision making :
Ability to plan own activities and to meet project deadlines | Communication
Work closely with other departments, mainly to service customer sites
Experience and knowledge
3 years experience in EHS Officer role | Knowledge of legislation (OSH Act, MHSA, NEMA)
Passport 360 knowledge | HSEC Online knowledge
Experience in compiling safety files for a mine
Experience working as HSE Safety Officer at a mine
Strong administrative skills, including report writing skills
Communication skills both written and verbal | English language proficiency
Planning /scheduling | Effective time management
Assertive, robust, energetic, and goal-oriented | Self-driven.
Sense of urgency - initiate, complete, and follow through on tasks
Ability to work in a team but also work independently.
Good problem-solving skills | Ability to stay calm under stressful conditions.
Good interpersonal skills | Passionate about his/ her field of expertise.

ISO 9001; 14001, 45001 Internal Auditing
Minimum Qualifications :
SAMTRAC and/or COMSOC 1 and 2 | Legal Liability
Relevant safety regulations as per South Africas legal and statutory requirements
Incident Investigation | First Aid Level 1 | Fire Fighting Level 1 | Risk Assessor
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook | Unendorsed Drivers License
Desirable :
A tertiary qualification in Quality Management, EHS or equivalent
Mental demands:
High-paced position where continuous multitasking is required. High levels of concentration
are required, and the workload will vary every day.
The ability to multitask is essential.
Required to be self-motivated and able to make decisions within delegated responsibility.
Expected to react to unpredictable operational requirements of an ad-hoc nature.
Physical demands:
Will be required to attend medical fitness assessments
Will spend time at a desk working on a computer and attending meetings, and site visits at
times as well.
Traveling to customer and/or supplier sites

Comply with prescribed health and safety measures.
Actively participate in the support of the Companys Quality Management Systems to
support internal quality controls and to secure sustainable business.
Actively participate in the support of the Companys Environmental, Health, and Safety
programs to ensure ISO Standards are met and maintained
SALARY : Annual TCOE: R 620 000 R 650 000 (includes Basic salary, car allowance, provident fund, 50% subsidy to medical aid, group life, disability insurance, funeral scheme).
