Key performance area
Inspect
Inspect the conditions of the instrumentation devices, piping, cables, cable racks and field station(s), Engineering Stations, DCS cabinets, PLC rooms as per the Work Order (WO) instruction and identify deviations with regards to safety and intended operational parameters. The DCS, Engineering Stations, PLC rooms shall include all the components within the rooms, cabinets, MCC and/or Stations.
Inspect the conditions of the instrumentation equipment (i.e., scales, bulk scales) as per the Work Order instruction and identify deviations concerning the instrumentation best practices and safe operations of the equipment.
The inspection as per the WO shall be completed on daily basis.
Repair,
Replace and Maintain.
Repair and/or replace all instrumentation within the area of responsibility and the installation(s) is available for safe operation thereof.
Repair and/or replace any safety guarding and/or safety system that has failed or not
available for immediate safeguarding of personnel and protection of instrumentation against
extended damages.
Maintain the functionality and availability of the safety system. Maintain the operational availability of the instrumentation.
Apply correct workmanship to avoid repeat failures of equipment and/or system(s). Repeat failure shall include failure of the equipment and/or system(s) on the same failure mode and failure within an unacceptable period.
Housekeeping.
Ensure that the housekeeping is always acceptable and is continually being improved.
Ensure 5S is implemented and continually maintained.
Ensure the housekeeping enforces and/or enhance the safety of personnel within the area of responsibility.
Give Feedback.
Ensure that the feedback concerning the work completed on the Work Order (WO) is given to the relevant planner within the same shift it was issued. The feedback concerning the closure of the Work Orders, 5-Why investigations and/or RCA investigations shall be given to the Work Coordinator within the same shift the WO was issued
Ensure that all breakdowns have been investigated making use of the 5-Why investigation method as minimum.
Ensure that the root cause of the breakdown(s) is identified correctly and resolved accordingly.
The feedback on the WO shall include required spares and/or improvements to ensure the repeat failures are eliminated and/or reduced.
The required spares and/or improvements to the plant within the Instrumentation Mechanicians area of responsibility shall be given to the Work Coordinator in writing.

Technical knowledge demonstrated and learnt in the Instrumentations in the chemical processing plants.
Basic knowledge of ISO 14001, 45001, 9001
Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety, SIL and Area Classification Standards
SHERQ Training course
Safety Work Permit training
Computer Literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
Instrument equipment calibration
Overhauling instrument equipment
Performing faultfinding
Read and interpret instrument drawings
Attention to details
Be able to do basic problem solving and decision making and analysis
Ability to work under pressure
Experience
At least 3 years experience working as a qualified artisan, preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Knowledge of the Area Classification and Safety integrity Level (SIL) Standards.
Qualifications:
Matric
N3 / Diploma Electrical Engineering L/C (Process Instrumentation)
Instrumentation Red Seal
Siemens PCS 7 training (advantageous)
Reporting structure:
This position reports to the Instrumentation Supervisor.
Personal Circumstances:
Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies medical centre.
May be required to be on Standby.
