SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY
Closely collaborates with the HoD and Executive Directors: Civil Engineering in directing, co-ordinating, initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & control, integration, and closing of the Civil Engineering Projects. Drives general Civil Engineering related design and deliverables.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead, manage and guide Engineers, technicians, draughts persons and delegate work effectively in the Civil Engineering Department.
Ensure that all employees in the team are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform jobs.






Formulate systems for smooth running of the Civil Engineering section to enable synergy and coherence.
Design and report in the Civil Engineering section to meet project objectives.
Preparation of proposals, tender and contract documents for the infrastructure services nationally and internationally.
Construction monitoring and implementation of site construction work as and when required on a part-time basis on at least the following aspects:

Ensuring compliance with design/specifications and standards.
Ensuring compliance with programme and all knowledge areas.
Attending site meetings.
Preparing reports.

Perform any ad-hoc office duties as assigned by the HoD: Civil Engineering.
Guide and train engineers and technicians in design and other necessary skills to ensure continuous professional development.
Keep abreast with technology development and research in the field of water and wastewater engineering.
Coordinate and supervise the production of technical drawings, design, and reporting inputs by supporting staff.
Client liaison including meetings and reporting.






Compliance with the company's Quality Management System ISO9001 requirements.
Assist with the preparation of requests for proposals, expressions of interest, panel applications, and tenders.
Management of projects and monitoring of performance and profitability.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

BEng (Civil) or equivalent degree.
Professionally registered or registrable with ECSA as PrEng, and SAICE. Good experience in bulk water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, stormwater systems, earthworks, basic road and drainage systems. Some process design experience will be advantageous.
Experience managing a team of juniors and managers.
Minimum 15 years in engineering design, management, and construction.






Extensive experience in the construction of steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works, and water treatment plants.
Minimum 5 years after professional (ECSA) registration or any other recognized professional bodies.
Proven track record in management and leadership within a consulting firm.
Legal knowledge of Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, Design compliance standards.
Knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, and various civil and water design software.
Driver's License is essential.
Quality Management: Ensure that there is ISO compliance.
Regular inter-provincial and international site visits and meetings.
Salary is negotiable.
