The Purpose of this Position

The successful candidate will provide leadership to continue to position the company as a leading supplier of earthmoving and compact construction equipment in South Africa. The Managing Director will work closely with the Group CEO and the rest of the company's Board to align the business for maximum success, while always upholding the company's long-held,
core values. He or she will guide, and interact with, the rest of the management team to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the business,





so as to achieve short-term targets and longer-term goals.

The successful candidate will identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the Company. He or she will conduct official correspondence as the Managing Director of the Company as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate. The Managing Director will be responsible for identifying and implementing sound, profitable business strategies and best practices. This individual must be hands-on. He or she will set short- and long-term goals and define the strategies and design
the roadmap for achieving them. He or she will be directly involved in the design and implementation of all sales and marketing plans for the business and will be directly involved in preparing budgets for approval by the Board. He or she will develop and deliver on the company's strategic plan in the most effective and efficient manner.





He or she will be accountable for the overall performance of the company and for the day-to-day running and management of the company's business, under delegated authority from the Board.

Procedure & Responsibilities

- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organisation.
- Work with direct reports and the management team to devise and implement departmental goals and continually drive the team to adhere to excellence in all phases of the business.
- Ensure that the operations of company meet the expectations of its clients, Board and
Shareholders.
- Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organisational policies, review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate.






- Work closely with the company's executive team to design the business plan including short and long-range goals.
- Execute effectively on the agreed policies and strategies.
- Develop and oversee sales and marketing plans.
- Lead the preparation of all budgets for board approval.
- Establish succession plans and continually groom new talent for future development and leadership.
- Meet on a regular basis with key customers, partners and vendors.
- Continually serve as a visible and accessible resource for them at all times.
- Develop and present the strategic and annual business plans to the Board for approval.
- Report to the Board on progress against the strategic and annual business plans on a regular basis.
- Manage, motivate, develop and lead members of the Exco Team.






- Take a leadership role in establishing or developing the company's culture and values.
- Ensure that there is a fit between strategy and culture, and the company's processes and structure.
- Ensure that appropriate internal audit processes and procedures are in place.
- Ensure attainment of BBBEE compliance targets for the organisation.
- Ensure strong and lasting relationships and communication lines are developed with the Earthmoving Equipment OEM's.

Human resources planning and management

- Determine staffing requirements for organisational management and program delivery.
- Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions for all staff.
- Establish a positive,





healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
- Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organisation's mission.
- Ensure that all staff receive an orientation to the organisation and that appropriate training is provided.
- Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review.
- Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance.
- Discipline staff when necessary, using appropriate techniques, release staff when necessary, using appropriate and legally defensible procedures.

Financial planning and management







- Work with finance team to prepare a comprehensive budget.
- Work with the Board and shareholders to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organisation.
- Manage expenditure tightly and within the approved authority delegated by the Board.
- Ensure that sound book-keeping and accounting procedures are followed.
- Administer the funds of the organisation according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organisation.

Risk management

- Identify and evaluate the risks to the organisation's people (clients, staff, management and volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks.
- Ensure that the Board of Directors and the organisation carry appropriate and adequate insurance coverage.







Preferred Experience and Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree (preferably in a field linked to mining and/or construction.)
- Post-graduate degree in business
- A minimum of ten (10) years in Earthmoving Equipment or related industries, or other capital equipment or diversified equipment or industrial industries, including a minimum of five (5) years of experience running businesses with direct P&L; and Balance Sheet responsibility.
- A proven track record of devising, implementing, and achieving corporate goals is required.

Working Location and Conditions:

- Based in Boksburg.
- Executive Directors usually work in an office environment, but the mission of the organisation may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.
- Executive Directors work a standard work week,





but additionally will often work evening, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings, customer entertainment and representing the organisation at industry events. Travel, both local and international, would be a requirement of the job.
