PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

A Junior Lecturer is responsible for contributing to the teaching efforts of the institution, especially at the undergraduate and graduate diploma levels. They are also expected to engage in activities to enhance their scholarly, research, and professional expertise relevant to their profession or discipline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning

- Teaching subject-related modules to students in a multi-mode delivery approach.






- Programme development to introduce new modules at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level in alignment with all campuses of the NWU.
- Responsible for extensive assessment in teaching.
- Module management and recordkeeping.
- Subject group and student support.
- Strict collaboration with SALA (Student Academic Life Cycle).
- Assure quality teaching, learning, and assessment at all applicable levels of programme delivery.
- Involvement in the faculty’s work-integrated learning (WIL) programme.

Research

- Consultation with students.
- Involvement in research activities of the faculty, adding value to the faculty and subject group.
- Personal research development to become an independent and competent researcher in the field of study within the subject group.

Community engagement

- Participate in and support community engagement initiatives and projects in the subject group and the faculty.

Administrative and subject group involvement







- Limited administrative functions primarily connected with subjects in which the employee teaches.
- Acting as subject coordinators provided that skills and experience demonstrate this capacity.
- Attendance at school and/or faculty meetings and/or membership in a limited number of committees.

Development

- Marking and assessment primarily connected with subjects in which the employee teaches.
- Production of teaching materials for students for whom the employee has responsibility.
- Development of subject material with appropriate guidance from the subject or course coordinator.

Desired Experience & Qualification

- A bachelors degree in Social Work (NQF level 7).
- A minimum of one (1) year social work experience.
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP).







KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

- Knowledge of modern platforms (AI detection, Whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changes in the learning and collaboration environment.
- Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
- Subject-related administrative and management skills.
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), internet, and email.

- Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, organisational, and communication skills.
- A commitment to teamwork and the ability to work alone.
- Proactive, organised, and priority driven.
- Proven ability and enthusiasm for working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

REMUNERATION







The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
