Introduction
The purpose of the job is to provide an efficient and effective vehicle maintenance service to the business through the effective management of workshops and staff as well as managing all depot related operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Workshop management
- Maintain OE and company standards in workshops, vehicles and equipment
- Manage technician productivity and efficiency relationship through effective use of systems and process
- Stock management
- Manage and minimise stock losses
- Adherence to group parts policies
- Ensuring model stock holding is in place
- Depot Management
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the depot
- Manage service providers according to performance indictors including security and property maintenance
- Ensure pallets are managed according to company processes and ensure pallets are returned timeously to minimise unnecessary cost to the business
- Manage operational requirements as and when requested by Operational Management which could include but not be limited to driver and customer related queries.
- Effectively manage the on-site diesel storage faciities
- Minimize Repairs & Maintenance Costs
- Ensure the best service at the best price
- Minimize re-work – doing it right the first time
- Continuous improvement through development and implementation of innovative maintenance solutions
- Risk management
- Manage accidents and incidents by complying to the OHS Act
- Conduct regular audits on hygiene factors to ensure good house keeping
- Occupational risk management – managing behaviour and compliance of all technical employee’s (behavioural based risk awareness culture)
- Operational risk management – dangerous goods brought into workshops by operations
- Governance and compliance
- Industry standards, legislation and customer requirements
- People leadership management
- Provide leadership to workshop team
- Resolving conflict
- Supporting and leading workshop foreman with systems and process to enable management of all internal workshop processes
- Effectively implement and manage communication methods to track and manage workshop performance
- Facilitate performance appraisals to drive goal alignment and achieve objectives.

- Identify training needs in the workshop and engage with OE service providers and training service providers to execute
- Development of employees and succession planning

- Ensure an efficient and effective administration process is implemented
- The provision of accurate workshop reports

- Build strong relationships and partnerships with suppliers
- Manage the relationship between technical services and operations
- Knowledge transfer
- Facilitate scheduled (weekly/monthly) information sharing sessions for knowledge transfer and goal alignment
Skills and Characteristics
- People leadership and management skills
- Extensive commercial vehicle workshop management knowledge
- Knowledge of workshop financial management processes
- Computer literacy and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
Experience and Education
- 5+ years in heavy commercial vehicle workshop environment
- 3+ years in commercial vehicle workshop at a management level
- Trade tested Diesel Mechanic
- Grade 12/N3
