Introduction
The Production Manager will oversee the manufacturing process within a company and will ensure that production lines run without any problems and minimum downtime. Working together with supervisors and top management, they will also ensure that products are manufacturerd to a certain quality standard and adheres to other safety/industry-related regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Areas of Responsibility
- The Production Manager ensures quality products are manufactured and packed by managing the production function and all related resources, maintaining the relevant documentation and reviewing production processes to meet manufacturing requirements timeously.
- The Production Manager is also responsible for ensuring that products are produced timeously for all contract customers.
- The Production Manager is responsible for liaising with the procurement department to ensure the availability of all materials (raw materials, packaging materials, bulk materials and consumables) required for production.
- The Production Manager will ensure the functions of management: planning, organising, leading and controlling are implemented effectively.
DUTIES
GMP RESPONSIBILITIES
- To ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are of an acceptable standard.
- To ensure that all materials received from the dispensary into production for batch manufacturing bears a dispensed label.
- To ensure that goods are produced and packaged to meet current GMP requirements and customer needs.
- To ensure that goods produced and packaged meet the quality specifications set by Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
- To assist the Plant Engineer and QA Validations Officers with the validation plan(s) and processes,
providing specialist input and participating in the final review of the findings if requested.
- To ensure that all production staff are trained on operational activities in line with the approved Standard Operating Procedures.
OPERATIONAL FOCUS:
The Production Manager will report to the Responsible Pharmacist / CEO.
- To ensure effective short-term planning regarding staffing resources based on production forecasts in order to meet the production targets.
- To ensure that goods are produced and packaged to meet Customer Requirements.
- To plan and schedule products to be manufactured on site timeously.
- To ensure that process flows within the manufacturing and packing process are optimised.
- To ensure that staff operates within the principles of GMP.
- To oversee and administer overtime and leave for all production staff within agreed time frames so as to ensure that HR is aware of the number of hours worked or leave taken for the correct payment to be processed accordingly.
- To manage staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- To ensure that production processes are reviewed in accordance with GMP guidelines.
- To ensure sufficient back-up during absences.
CUSTOMER FOCUS:
- To interact and support the relevant internal stakeholders with regards to ensuring quality standards and procedures are met and followed.
STAFF FOCUS:
- To ensure the ongoing development and enhancement of staff skills and potential in order to achieve levels of competency as well as exceed personal performance excellence (nurture talent).
- To ensure the timeous and appropriate staffing, resourcing and deployment of resources in order to support the set departmental objectives.
- To create and maintain a conducive working environment within the department to ensure high levels of morale, performance, motivation, mutual respect and team spirit.
- To ensure the maintenance of discipline and adherence to internal processes and codes of conduct relating to the specific area of responsibility.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Job Knowledge
- Medicines and Related Substances Control Act, Act 101 of 1965, as amended and SAPC Act, Act 53 of 1974, as amended
- Pharmacy Act, Act 53 of 1974
- SA Guide to GMP and PIC/s GMP Guide
- Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Documentation
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing principles
- Compiling, reviewing and updating of SOP’s
- Knowledge and understanding of human relations principles and team building principles
Skills Requirements
- 3-year related degree is essential
- Confidence
