Job Purpose:
The Deputy Head of School- ICT is to support and assist the Head of School in delivering robust academic and strategic leadership across all of the School's operations. The incumbent will work to integrate high-quality education and professional practice, fostering a high-performing academic culture that aligns with the strategic goals of the Institution. This position will also focus on providing academic leadership and enhancing the academic capacity of the School of Discipline and its associated programs at IIE Rosebank College.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Academic Management
- Implement and align the strategic plan for the faculty as aligned to the Intuitional strategy.
- Provide academic management for the undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing professional development practices within the faculty.
- Review and implement changes to the existing programmes curriculum in collaboration with the Head of School for feedback to Central Academic Team, (CAT).
- Support and assist in the development of new programmes in collaboration with the Head of School for accreditation and curriculum material development in the faculty.
- Support the design of appropriate teaching models for the faculty to provide optimal delivery of curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment
Academic Leadership
- Review and implement the curriculum and syllabus for the selected programmes or modules within the faculty.
- Identify module developers in collaboration with the IIE CAT Operations Team and as required, brief the developer
- Analyze and report on students’ academic results: throughput rates, progression rates, graduation and completion rates on a national basis.
- Compile learning analytics reports on students’ academic results, throughput rates, progression rates,
graduation and completion rates across campuses for the faculty.
- Identify programmes and modules at-risk with campuses and ensure appropriate interventions are implemented effectively.
- Participate in key IIE faculty governance structures and committees
Campus Support
- Work with the relevant campus academic teams and support the quality delivery of programmes within the faculty.
- Support the coordination of discipline specialists across campuses.
- Implement a formal communication structure within the faculty, at a campus level.
- Support the campuses in the recruitment, selection, approval and development of the teaching team in the cognate area
- Communicate with the campuses on new developments, recommendations and trends and facilitate troubleshooting
- Collaborate with the various functions within the student experience teams to ensure the faculty is represented appropriately in campus initiatives
- Provide support relating to issues and escalations that may impact the faculty
Professional Relationship Management
- Act as the Brand Ambassador to external stakeholders in the profession and partnership building within the faculty.
- Support and maintain industry relationships which may include industry endorsements of qualifications, qualifications’ reviews, sponsorships and professional expertise.
- Manage academic positioning of IIE Rosebank College professional training and development for the world of work.
- Represent Rosebank College on external boards, committees and professional bodies.
- Facilitate compliance with partners and provider's policies and regulations.
Research
- Support the collaboration between the Heads of School and Research Manager to ensure that the research output of the faculty contributes to attainment of the overall target of the institution.
- Participate in professional and scholarly activities e.g. Research Conference Papers and Higher Degree Studies.
- Create and foster a culture of research and scholarship with the faculty.
- Provide thought leadership – opinion pieces written and published in (social) media to build academic credibility in the wider SA society/community.
- Actively teach and/or supervise in a specialist field to serve as an exemplar of best and reflective practice.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
Minimum
- Master’s qualification (NQF Level 9) in Information Communication Technology or relevant field within the faculty.
Advantageous
- Doctorate/PHD qualification (NQF Level 10) in Information Communication Technology
Experience
Minimum
- 3 years of Lecturing or Teaching Experience.
- 3 - 5 Years of Relevant Industry Experience.
Advantageous
- 3 years of educational coordination and management experience.
