As a Database Compliance Specialist, you will ensure that our databases comply with regulations and industry standards. Your role is crucial in protecting sensitive information and maintaining data integrity across the organization.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in database management or compliance roles.
- Familiarity with database compliance regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) is a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of database management systems and data compliance principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in database management tools (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Relevant certifications in data compliance or database management preferred (e.g., CIPP).
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment while maintaining independent judgment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to support compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Monitoring: Oversee database activities to ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA) and university policies.
- Policy Development: Develop and implement database compliance policies and procedures aligned with legal requirements and organizational goals.
- Auditing and Reporting: Conduct audits, prepare detailed reports on compliance status, and present findings to management.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies,
participating in incident response efforts.
- Training and Awareness: Create and deliver training programs on database compliance, promoting awareness throughout the organization.
- Collaboration: Engage with cross-functional teams and external auditors to ensure effective compliance initiatives.
