We are a Financial Services group provides accounting and payroll services to the SME market. Our company is growing at an unprecedented rate and we are interested in hiring a Junior Accountant to join our team.
The Junior Accountant will need to demonstrate the ability to work proactively and independently in a fast-paced office environment. Our ideal candidate will have a head for numbers, experience with MS Excel, accounting software and strong analytical skills.
• The recording of the day-to-day financial transactions and completing the posting process to bring the books to the Balance Sheet stage
• Entering data and maintaining accounting records
• Creating reports
• Reconciling Control accounts with Sub-Ledgers
• Processing cashbook receipts and payments
• Reconciling the company bank statements
• Checking accounting records for accuracy
• Maintaining a system for organizing company documents
• Maintaining detailed schedules of supporting information on various platforms
• Preparing, reconciling, and completing VAT returns
• Preparing supporting documents for SARS reviews
• Ensuring legal and tax compliance
• Preparing cash flow statements
• Assisting with audits, fact checks, and resolving discrepancies
• Assisting with the profit and loss schedules for the monthly management accounts
• Assisting with the profit and loss schedules for the annual financial statements
• Assisting with the profit and loss schedules for customer categories within the business
• Calculate & prepare wages at month end for casual staff
• Supervising and training (where necessary) Debtors and Creditor Administrators and other finance staff
• Performing partial checks of the posting processes
• Ad hoc reporting
• Reviewing the stock holding positions
• Process vehicle instalment journals & prepare amortisation schedules
• Prepare feasibilities for new equipment to be purchased
• Prepare sales reporting on a weekly/monthly basis for various channels
• Ensuring fixed assets register is up to date and journals are passed
• An Accounting or Bookkeeping qualification
• At least 3 years of accounting experience
• A solid understanding of basic accounting and accounting payable/receivable principles
• Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
• Data entry skills along with a flair for numbers
• Hands-on experience with MS excel spreadsheets and Pastel / Sage accounting software
• Proficiency in English
• Proficiency in MS Office, Sage
• Customer service orientation
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Able to prepare, review and understand financial statements
